Moss + lichen on rock at Port na Mine Hill, Inverawe, Argyll

On land that still bares the trace of its ancient Iron Age past, Sìtheag sits within the settlement of Inverawe, at the foot of mighty Ben Cruachan … where the salmon pool rapids of the River Awe meet the dark mountainous beauty of Loch Etive.

Sìtheag is the Gaelic word for fairy. Pronounced shee-ahk, it was chosen as a metonym for the natural world, which shapes our ethos. Coincidentally, the genitive form of this word - sìth [shee] - also means peace + tranquility, which we hope our space embodies. Our sìtheag is called Bláithín, which means little flower.

We are guided by the Gaelic concept of dùthchas [/duːxəs/] ~ an understanding of the interconnectivity between land, people, nature, culture + all living things.

The store makes a point of sourcing from small businesses with an emotional connection to what they produce + an understanding of their place, purpose + impact on the world.  This invariably means that we have the privilege of dealing directly with the maker|producer.

We have introduced a reusable cup system, in a first step towards halting the use of all single use items.

We assess the impact of everything we do, the systems we use, the food we serve + the items we stock, to inform our choices. As a matter of principle, we aim to act by the mantra ‘If we have to compromise…we don’t do it’.

We want to make sure that our team are able to develop their skillset, within a friendly + collaborative environment. Our aim is for Sìtheag to nurture talent + enable our staff members to move on, in a better position to realise their ambitions, whatever their field of interest. If you would like to come + work with us, please get in touch.
